Instructional Strategies

InTASC Standard #8: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

Introduction

There are multiple ways in which a teacher can deliver content to students. To maximize student learning, there are numerous instructional strategies that must be incorporated into a teacher's everyday practice. Teachers need to take their deep understanding of content and use a consistent blend of pedagogical methods to transfer their knowledge to their students.

As I think about what it means to have a "consistent blend" of instructional strategies, I am reminded of the variety of instructional strategies needed to engage all different kinds of learners and the consistency students need to stay focused and remain successful. Through this blend of instructional variety and daily consistency, I am able to engage all learners in deep conversations about content and encourage them to apply their content knowledge in meaningful ways.

Conclusion

It is crucial for teachers to use a variety of instructional strategies to present information to their students. Through this variety of instruction, teachers will be able to educate all individual students through a strategy that resonates best with them. A consistent blend of instructional methods is the best way for teachers to make sure students are developing the deep understanding and application of knowledge they will need to be successful.
